Seventeen-year-old Reverie Moore expects a scholarship to RedStone Academy to be the ticket out of the life she never asked for. She's packed her bags, said her goodbyes, and boarded the train, thinking she's finally going to a real school with real classes and a real future. She's wrong. What waits at RedStone isn't a school at all. It's a system sorting designed to strip every new arrival down to one of two designations: Owner or slave.
The test is simple, and the results are finite. Owners become the masters who will be trained to rule, control, and command. Slaves will be trained to learn their place as objects, property, and, most importantly, to please. Reverie is brilliant, driven, kind, and shy, and has never been much of a fighter. She can't wait to test, to see where the system decides for her.
Luckily, she isn't alone. There are others who will be tested, and others who have been here long enough who can help her learn as she goes. The Headmaster runs the academy and is excitedly keeping a watchful eye on every student who enters his Academy this year.
